OLS 5(ish) Year Anniversary Party & Auction
Thursday, October 26th, 6pm +

All hail the mighty One Longfellow Square, survivor of floods, birthplace of Lake Street Dive (more or less), home to many a musician and many more music lovers, and recently turned 5 “ish” year old venue!

That’s right. This year we’re turning 5 “ish” years old and we want to celebrate with you!

In addition to being a celebration, this will also be an important fundraiser for the venue. After all, donated funds DO make up nearly 25% of our income. Tickets cost a suggested donation of $25 per person, and a silent auction, featuring some amazing items will run throughout the event to help us raise money so we can keep the doors open for 5 more years. Of course, it would not be an OLS event without music! Music will be performed by Portland newcomer Gregg Harper (don’t miss your chance to say “I heard him here first”) and Portland natives Keanu Keanu (don’t miss your chance to sing and dance along to their amazing renditions of songs by The Bee Gees, Roy Orbison, Crosy, Stills, Nash and Young, and more-).
This is the can’t miss musical event of the season. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing OLS memories with you throughout the night.
6pm doors + cocktail hour w/ music by Gregg Harper – 7pm dancing kicks off with Keanu Keanu. Click the link for event registration:

Object/Artifact/Artwork
An exhibition of artworks by
Jacob Ginga & Gregg Harper
@ Groundworks,
New Bedford, MA

Through June 29th...
Opening Reception
Thursday, June 9th

PictureThe Two of Shards, Gregg Harper, 2016, Roman Era Shards, Polychrome on Windsor & Newton Paper, 22"X30".

At what point does an object become an artifact? Must it first collect its fair share of stories? There is history in objects and the way in which we view them. In this exhibition, artists Jake Ginga & Gregg Harper, explore the potential for objects and artifacts to serve as inspiration and materials for artworks. Each work aims to address the space between the viewer and their relationship with the objects with careful attention to design
and composition.

In the end it’s less about what stories the
objects tell and more about the stories you give to them.

Pas de Deux

Released January, 2014

Now available for Download (MP3) (and sampling) at CDBaby:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/harper34

Pas de Deux is a live studio recording with an intimate feel and is a collection of 12 pieces in what I would characterize as a "vocal jazz" style.  The song list includes original pieces: Pas de Deux (composed with Naomi Bradford), Tour of the Universe - both of these are instrumentals, Shroud of Time, Sweetness of a Day, Dreamer's Waltz and a reprise of Walk in Beauty and That's That. It will also include covers of Astrud Gilberto's I'm Nothing Without You, Tom Wait's Ol' 55, David Sylvian's Fire in the Forest, and Cole Porter's Ever'time We Say Goodbye...and my new interpretation of the old folk song Leatherwing Bat (in the spirit of Ray Charles and Cab Calloway to change it up a bit)...It was recorded at Triad Recording Complex (New Bedford, MA and Warren, RI) with Phil Greene - Producer and Matt Ricci - Engineer.

On Thursday, January 26th, New Africa House at University of Massachusetts, Amherst accepted Naomi's artworks "Henry's Blanket" (2008) and an untitled abstract (2002) into their collection in memory of her and in honor of Dr. Josephus Femi Richards. Femi, (center) who retired in 2002 after teaching there for 32 years, was an influential force in her artistic development. And that day he was invited by Prof. Amilcar Shabazz (far right) to accept the gifts on behalf of New Africa House. Photo credit: John Solum, University Photographer

Retrospective August 10, 2013: Naomi Bradford and Challenge Unlimited @ Ironstone Farm

Update: Ironstone Farm's Challenge Unlimited has set May 18, 2014 as the date for the Equine Therapy Program for Cancer Survivors in Naomi's memory.  12 people who are battling cancer will have the same opportunity that others' generosity provided to Naomi in August, 2011. Thanks to all who contributed!

Many turned out to enjoy a retrospective of Naomi's art and life at her former studio in North Harwich, MA.  Part of the celebration involved raising funds for the support of Challenge Unlimited's Equine Therapy Program for Cancer Survivors, a program that helped Naomi during her struggle with cancer.

On Friday, August 16th, Naomi's sister Maura and I delivered checks and cash to sponsor a full retreat for 12 cancer survivors in Naomi's name which will be scheduled for Spring, 2014.

More funds have come in for a grand total of $4800.00...Naomi would be overwhelmed by this generosity in her memory...thanks so much to everyone...Gregg
