" I live to sing..."

Harper’s music is warm and lush – his range embodies works that are contemplative and soothing, as well as tunes that are stirring and energetic. With a strong background in theatre and storytelling as well as instrumental performance, Harper is equally at ease playing to a large audience or intimate crowd. He is able to transform any venue into a soundscape for tales both old and new, and able to quickly adjust his material to suit any occasion.
Formerly the director of two museums and currently a practicing archaeologist, Harper’s fascination with history and its touch on the present is evident in his music – he brings a new perspective to his arrangements of traditional tunes from around the world, while his modern repertoire is enhanced by his depth of knowledge, always containing a haunting tinge of longing and mystery.
No matter what your mood, Harper’s lyrical and moving melodies create an ambience perfect for socializing, relaxing or just enjoying. Harper is available to play for any occasion and can assemble sets that are suited to the venue. His repertoire is vast and varied, and includes everything from traditional and modern folk, blues and vocal jazz tunes as well as a growing repertoire of original compositions. His original songs and compostions are available on three albums: Ancient Road (an EP of 5 original and traditional Celtic tunes), Dragonfly (full length LP with 12 original tunes in a contemporary Americana/Roots style), and the recently released Why So Worried (an LP of traditional tunes from the British Isles).
He has been performing professionally since the 1970’s and has played at The Family Owl, Crossbow Tavern, College Hill Coffee Company, Cafe Europa, City Cellars, Iron Horse Inn and World Music Fest in Cincinnati, OH and the The Brown Jug, Bee-Hive Tavern, Cape Cod Chat House and The Belfry Inn on Cape Cod as well as a concert at Cape Cod Museum of Art. He is a member of the Passim Folk Club, the Americana Music Association and the New England Folk Festival Association where he performed April 21, 2012.
